One of the first adult genre books that I ever read, back when I was eleven or so, was Stephen King's The Stand from 1978. I was a bit reluctant to pick it up at first because it was so big. At 750 pages it was bigger than anything I had ever read before. But by the end of the first chapter I was hooked.
